T&L: Collaboration Online International Learning (COIL) between Faculty of Pharmacy UKM and Department of Pharmacy, San Pedro College Davao

The 1st session of COIL between FoP UKM and DoP SPC focused on clinical pharmacokinetics and medication review. The session was engaging with active participation from students and facilitators. Hopefully, this COIL will be extended for other topics.

COIL is a virtual experiences that are embedded into the formal curriculum and provide students with an opportunity to interact with peers at international universities for them to develop intercultural competences and digital skills while working together on specific learning tasks.

There are four key elements that define any COIL project:

  • It involves a cross-border collaboration with students from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Students must engage in some sort of online interaction, either asynchronous or synchronous.
  • It must be driven by a set of internationalised learning outcomes
  • There must be a reflective component.

COIL projects can vary in duration and format, and can take place in ‘real-time’ so that students from different countries are communicating and interacting ‘live’ simultaneously. However, projects can also take place ‘asynchronously,’ which means students from each country can interact and work together at different times.

Thank you the core team members for the excellent organization: Dr Erwin Faller, Dr Ernieda, Dean Fatima Tesoro.
